Kiltha Og Footballers Capture Eastern Minor Football Championship Title With Outstanding Second Half Show
Kiltha Og 1-17 Erin's Own 0-7
Kiltha Og produced an outstanding second half performance to romp to an impressive victory in last week's Rebel Og Eastern 2 Football Championship Final in Ballynoe. It was a night to remember for the Castlemartyr/Dungourney based outfit as they recovered from a rather slow start and the set back of being reduced to fourteen players before half time, to comprehensively outplay opponents Erin's Own with a power packed second thirty minutes.
Having conceded the opening two points of the match, the winners began to gain control of the game as the first half wore on and they retired deservedly leading by 0-7 to 0-4. The numerical advantage failed to help Erin's Own after the break, due to Kiltha's outstanding work rate and their smart mix of using the long and short ball
There were heroes all over the field in what the was the team's best performance of a season that has seen them defeat Glenville, Bride Rovers and Killeagh/Ita's en route to the decider. A good run of early season League results laid the foundations for the championship summer (and autumn) and now Kiltha have both a County Championship Semi Final against Killavullen and a League Semi Final on the horizon. Of course, the panel has also the forthcoming glamour Premier 2 Hurling Championship Final against Blackrock at Pairc Ui Rinn on Monday next October 7th as their forthcoming priority.
But, back to the big ball and the stats behind the commanding football Final triumph. Following the concession of two early points, Kiltha opened their account in the 11th minutes with a lovely crafted score from the reliable boot of Andrew Kelly. His fellow corner forward Eoghan Martin squared the match within sixty seconds and the same player edged their side ahead by the mid way point of the half with his second point. The duo proceeded to torment the Erin's Own defence for the remainder of the hour, with the intelligent pacey runs and scoring ability, proving a constant threat.
Martin added another point in the 21st minute either side of a trio of white flags (including two 45's) from the influencial Jack McGann with his powerful right boot. At this stage McGann had become a major ball winner from the opposition kick outs, whilst both Mike Leahy and Daire Coughlan were also winning the midfield exchanges. Allied to hard work of wing forwards Ronan Hayes and Conor Ronayne, the winners had now definitely established a template for success. - And that was going forward.
Behind, the defence who had carved out a very solid reputation all season, were now also on top, as reflected by the concession of just one more first half point, a 30th minute free which ended a 20 minute Erin's Own barren spell without a score. The short whistle sounded with Kiltha 0-7 to 0-3 ahead, but also a man down following a second yellow card late on.
Despite Ronan Blackton opening the scoring for Erin's Own with a very well taken point on the resumption, the Kiltha reaction was superb. The hugely energetic Conor Ronayne (2), Jack McGann (2), Andrew Kelly and Eoghan Martin all raised white flags before Erins's Own tallied again on 45 minutes. At this stage Kiltha led 0-13 to 0-4.
The winners were on top all over the field. Daire Coughlan and Darragh Cashman, following his move from full forward, were now bossing midfield, mixing the long and short ball to ensure that the lively forward five were always on the front foot. Behind the defence again to continue to excel. Team captain Niall Flynn was doing his usual superb job, marshalling events from centre back whilst the energy and pace of wings backs Ciaran Joyce and Ben Napier was a key factor all through. This very talented duo continued to defend superbly, but also set up attacks with their intelligent play.
Zak McAulliffe, Rob Cahill and Odhran Cantwell were all superb in the full back line.. In fact it's fair to say that Rob and Odhran both produced their finest ever hour in a Kiltha Og football jersey, whilst Zak was again razor sharp. Goalkeeper Peter Fleming was also an inspiring figure all through with his excellent kick outs a key component in setting up many attacks.
With such all round dominance, there was to be no change in the trend in the remainder of the contest. Daire and Darragh (Coughlan and Cashman) continued to impress at midfield whilst Eoghan Martin, Jack McGann, and Andrew Kelly were still tormenting the Erin's Own rearguard creating and scoring. The ice on the celebration cake was when Conor Ronayne embellished his usual all action hour with the game's only goal on 59 minutes. The only disruption late on was an injury to the hard working Ronan Hayes, but substitute Niall McGrath along with his other colleagues who came off the bench, all played their part to see out what was comfortable win on a famous night for the football wing of Kiltha Og.
Congratulations to all involved – roll on the P2 Hurling Championship decider on Monday next October 7th at Pairc Ui Rinn. - Best of luck lads!

U 15 Plate Challenge Cup Final 2018
Kiltha Og……………………2-15
Carrigtwohill……………..2-9
In a game where the result was in doubt until the very closing stages, Kiltha Og U-15s held out to record an impressive 6 point victory over a very determined Carrigtwohill outfit, on Friday evening last, the 4th of May. With 10 minutes to go, only a goal separated the teams and Carrigtwohill were trying manfully to breach the Kiltha Og rear-guard, but some assured goalkeeping by Kian Bowles and resolute defending by Niall Geaney and co. in the defence stemmed the tide before Kiltha tacked on 3 late points to steady the nerves.
The game started at a blistering pace with Jack Leahy (2) and Ciaran Sice giving Kiltha 3 points to 2 lead after 5 minutes. Daire Leahy struck for a goal on the 10th minute after great work by Mikey O Dwyer and Ciaran Sice, to put Kiltha 4 points to the good. Mikey himself, billowed the net 5 minutes later, when set up beautifully by a Ciaran Sice free, and immediately tacked on a point from an acute angle to leave Kiltha in front 2-5 to 0-3 after a frantic opening quarter.
From here until half time both sides swapped 3 points to make it 2-8 to 0-6 at the short whistle.
A wind assisted Carrigtwohill wasted no time on the resumption. They struck for a goal almost immediately, and their tails were up. The sides traded points throughout the third quarter but on the 45th minute Carrigtwohill breached the Kiltha goal line again to make it 2-12 to 2-9 and set up a grandstand finale.
A Ciaran Sice free with 10 minutes to go stopped the rot, but still Carrig continued to press. Some tidy goalkeeping by Kian Bowles and a few timely interventions by Scott O Riordan kept them at bay, and when Conor Padden soloed up the field and won a free, you felt that the siege had been lifted. Ciaran Sice slotted over 2 more frees towards the end to give a bit of daylight between the sides with Kiltha Og annexing their first piece of silverware for 2018 on a scoreline of 2-15 to 2-9.
In what was an excellent team performance, great credit must go to all the players. Kian Bowles was assured in goals and his fullback line of Oisin, Niall and Tom Fleming were dogged and cleared their line well.
Darragh Joyce, Scott and Conor Padden formed a formidable and dependable half back line, and the hardworking midfield duo of Dylan O Halloran and John Ahern were prominent in both defence and attack.
Ciaran Sice led the attack in style causing the Carrig defence all sorts of problems, while Jack Leahy outside him was hugely impressive. Ben Richardson on his first start, following a lengthy lay off gave every single ounce he had to the cause, and it’s great to see him back.
Mike O Dwyer continued his recent run of impressive form at no. 14 with a superb display, Daragh Leahy chimed in with an impressive goal and Billy McGann worked his socks off for the hour.
Conan Joyce and Liam Kelly played their part also when they came on, while David Lynch was unfortunate to lose out as he was injured recently playing for Midleton CBS.

Minor A Hurling Final Kiltha-og 2-13 2018 Bandon 0-12
Our undefeated minor hurlers rounded off in style what will undoubtedly go down in the Kiltha Og archives as a historic year with a fourth and final piece of silver ware on Saturday morning last. The opponents in this county hurling league final were Newcestown who we knew were going to provide a tough battle. Most spectators will agree that this game was won in the first 30 minutes with Kiltha Og’s clinical and consistent sharp shooting and tireless work rate giving them a lead that they never relinquished. Although the second half in itself was a draw the work done in front of goal in the first half gave them a convincing win.
This was not only the last game of our hurling year, but also the final game in a Kiltha Og jersey for our 18 year olds who will now go on to represent Castlemartyr and Dungourney respectively. Fittingly enough this victory was a manifestation of the team spirit, hard work and admirable character displayed by this exceptional group of players and management, since our first gathering in early January this year. The fifteen young men on the field very much took it upon themselves during the sixty minutes to ensure that they finished out the year unbeaten in all competitions. This feat naturally gave great pride to loyal family and friends who so faithfully supported them throughout the year .
Having topped their hurling league group, they defeated Youghal in the East league final before overcoming a strong Ballyhea side in the county semi-final to set up this end of year decider with Newcestown.
The business end of the league campaign unfolded after their long and unforgettable journey to both East Cork and County championship glory in early September. Looking back on what has been an extraordinary campaign it is a true testament to all the players and management involved to reflect on the high quality teams encountered over the course of the unbeaten league and championship seasons. In the eastern division they came out on the right side of close battles with Youghal in the first round followed by Whitechurch, St.Catherines and finally Cobh in the far flung GAA grounds of Crosshaven in the East Cork Final. They then marched on to defeat a good Kilshanning side in Pairc Ui Caoimh in the county Semi final before that fateful night in Ovens when against all odds they outscored a reputable Bandon squad in the County Championship final.
Once again great credit is due to the tireless efforts and outstanding commitment shown by everyone involved over the past ten months. The future is bright.

County Final This Wednesday After Premier 2A Under 16 County Semi Final Success
Kiltha Og 1-17 Eire Og 3-5
Despite conceding two early goals, Kiltha Og receovered to defeat Eire Og in last week's County Semi Final at The Mardyke. Both the green flags arrived inside the opening minutes for the Ovens based team, but by half time Kiltha Og had turned the game around to retire in front.
Some quality points from Niall Morgan and Ciaran Joyce added the by the now customary high contribution from Kyle Quinn Waites helped the East Cork side to eventually win the match with six points to spare. All of this without the influence of inspiring midfielder Jack McGann, who received a very nasty ankle injury early in the game. We extend our best wishes to Jack for a speedy recovery.

County Under 16 Premier 2A Hurling Championship
Kiltha Og 3-12 Lisgoold 0-9
In the end a comfortable win for Kiltha Og in ths Quarter Final tie played in Killeagh with the winners' high work rate a key factor in the success. Even though the margin of victory stood at 12 points, the defence had plenty of work to do throughout and must take considerable credit for their defending when the pressure came on at various stages.
Kiltha were fast out of the traps and led 0-5 to 0-1 by the 10th minute. A brace from Kyle Quinn Waites, and another double by the highly impressive Eoghan Martin along with a superb individual effort from the industrious Conor Ronayne were responsible for the advanatage. Lisgoold had responded with two points before Eoghan Martin's long range effort dipped under the crossbar to raise the first of three green flags for the winners. Five minutes later Kiltha had their second goal when ace full forward Kyle Quinn Waites found the target from close range after an attempted clearance ha d been blocked. By the half time whistle the margin stood at five points (2-5 to 0-6)
In trurh Lisgoold despite their very best efforts never looked like they could over turn a ten points deficit which was brought about in the 38th minute as Kyle again was on hand from close range after a storming run forward from impressive wing back Mike Leahy. Ciaran Joyce who had moved to the half forward line tallied with some smashing points, whilst Niall Morgan also contributed a well taken second half brace. With Andrew Kelly a willing outlet in the left corner Kiltha Og, always looked capable of extending their advanatgae.
At the othe rend excellent defending by Rob Cahill, Shane Moriarty and Conor Sweeney prevented the Lisgoold forwards getting ther goals they so badly needed. Ben Napier's move back to sweeper also enhanced the defensive unit.
So Kilta Og led by excellent captain and midfielder Jack McGann move on to the next round where Eire Og await. The core value of hard was instrumental in this opening Championship win. More of the same hopefully in the penultimate round in the near future - date and time to be confirmed.

Kiltha Og 5-9 Mallow 3-9
Kiltha Óg U16's were victorious in their Premier 2A final replay against Mallow last Sunday in Blarney. The two sides had finished level at 1-11 a piece a week and a half beforehand.
Kiltha Óg opened the scoring with a long range free from wing back Mike Leahy. Mallow were a point ahead when Kyle Quinn Waites ran onto a long ball and dispatched the sliotar past the Mallow goalkeeper to make the score 1-2 to 3. Kyle added another point before Mallow went up the field to score a goal of their own. The teams swapped points and at half time, the score was 1-5 to 1-4 in favour of Mallow. Both teams would have been reasonably happy at the break as the match hung evenly in the balance.
Mallow had a dream start to the second half, scoring a goal and a point in quick succession to put them 5 points in the lead. But Kiltha responded strongly. Kyle Quinn Waites pointed from play and when James Ahern caught a high ball and finished into the Mallow net, the score was back to the minimum.
Then a moment of magic from Andrew Kelly, put Kiltha back in the lead. Eoghan Martin ran through the heart of the Mallow defence and handpassed to Andrew Kelly who was in space to the right of the goals. The pass was slightly in front of Andrew, but he improvised and pulled on the ball. The sliotar flew into the the top corner, as the Mallow keeper watched on helplessly. The match had now turned in Kiltha's favour and they were now leading by 3-5 to 2-6.
Mallow responded through a point of their own. But an extremely well worked point restored Kiltha's two point advantage. Daire Coughlan put a pinpoint puckout, Anthony Nash-esque, into Ciarán Joyce's hand 60 yards down the field. Ciarán sent a pass down the line to Kyle who turned and pointed over his shoulder from the left sideline for what was a brilliant team score.
Kyle added another point from a free and latched onto the end of an Eoghan Martin kick to get Kiltha's fourth and his second goal.
Mallow again responded, as they had all day, by scoring two points. But Kiltha still had a commanding 4-7 to 2-9 lead. Ciarán Joyce slotted a long range free and when Niall Morgan kicked the ball to the net, the Kiltha supporters must have been confident that it would be their day.
Mallow were doing their best to break down the Kiltha rearguard, but the Kiltha defence stood firm, with Daire Coughlan saving from a 21 yard free. Andrew Kelly got Kiltha's final score of the game, with a point to extend their lead to nine points.
Mallow did score a consolation goal from a 21 yard free at the end, but Kiltha Óg were not to be stopped as they claimed the trophy with a 5-9 to 3-9 victory.
Scorers for Kiltha Óg: Kyle Quinn Waites 2-6 (2f) Andrew Kelly 1-1 James Ahern and Niall Morgan 1-0 each Mike Leahy (1f) and Ciarán Joyce (1f) 0-1 each
Kiltha Óg: Daire Coughlan; Shane Moriarty, Conor Sweeney, Rob Cahill; Mike Leahy, Colm O' Doherty, Niall Flynn; Ben Napier, Ciarán Joyce; Andrew Kelly, Conor Ronayne, Niall Morgan; Eoghan Martin, Kyle Quinn Waites, James Ahern
Congratulations to the under 16 team for winning the final
U12 Hurling vs Killeagh
Kiltha Og 5-7 Killeagh 0-3
Played on a lovely sunny evening, we got our first hurling wing of the league with a great performance against Killeagh. We started well with an early goal and this time, kept the performance up. At half time, we were 6 points up. The second half stated with both teams cancelling each other out until we made the breakthrough with a run of 3 scores that opened a gap which we built on until the end.
U12 Hurling vs Bride Rovers
Bride Rovers 3-04 Kiltha Og 2-02
Played in wet windy conditions, this was a good tough game of hurling where we showed our progress again. Playing against a team who had racked up a big score in their previous game, our boys got stuck in straight from the start and gave it their all. We played with the elements in the first half and lead by 2-02 to 1-01 at half time. In the second half, the boys put in a mighty effort against the elements but eventually Bride rovers got the better of us. This was a game that one or two small errors cost us and it’s really encouraging to see us being competitive this year.

U12 football vs Youghal
Youghal 2-7 Kiltha Og 3-1
Played on a breezy evening, we did not do enough with the wind to get there in the end. We started well with an early goal but could not build on that up to half time. Youghal started the second half quickly and lead comforatably until a late rally brought us back to just a goal behind. Some missed chances cost us dear but good fighting spirit shown at the end to bring us close.
U12 football vs Bride Rovers
Kiltha Og 2-7 Bride Rovers 2-5
Played in lovely sunny conditions, this was a much better display than the week previous. We started well again and went into an early 4 point lead only for Bride Rovers to come back at us and lead by a point at half time. We conceded a goal straight after half time and things looked bleak but the boys really put in a great effort to get back into the game and capped it off by scoring the winning goal in the last 2 minutes.

Clonea Power hurling tournament
Clonea Power U12 hurling tournament –
We participated in this tournament in mid-July. The first day saw us grouped with Clonea Power (the hoists), Ballyduff Upper (Waterford) and Dunamaggin (Kilkenny) with the top two to qualify for the quarter finals.
We started well with victory over Ballyduff Upper – we then had a great tussle with Clonea Power and needed a last gasp point to get a draw. That left it down to a must-win game against Dunamaggin and the team put on its best performance, winning well to top the group on scoring average.
This meant that we qualified for the quarter finals the following Saturday, where we were drawn against De Le Salle of Waterford. This was a really tough game with only a point between the teams at half time – however, De Le Salle struck for two quick goals after half time and the boys, try as they might, could not close the gap after this. We eventually lost by 5 points but put in a really creditable performance (seeing as De Le Salle ended up losing the final by only a point). Well done to the following players who were available on the days
Charlie O’ Neill, Warren Broderick. Olan Jones, Richie Harney, Cillian O’Callaghan, Colin Murphy, Cathal Murphy, Ewan Wimpenny, Ed Flanagan, Rory Black, Shane Morgan, Brian Flynn, Sean Ryan, Sean Geaney, Kelvin Cody-Byrne.
Fixtures :
Next up is a football blitz in Carrigtwohill on August 12th – time to be confirmed. Training for next weeks will be centred on preparing for that. More details to follow.
Kiltha Og have been invited to this U12 hurling tournament again this year and we will be taking part – this is a great competition which involves teams from Cork, Tipperary, Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford. It has grown over the years to the extent that it now takes place over two weekend, a qualify weekend and a finals weekend. The qualifying weekend is taking place on Sat/Sun July 15th and 16th and we will be putting in a big effort to get ready for this, as the standard is high.
Further details will be sent out as the event approaches.

Season update:We finished our hurling and football seasons on a disappointing note, losing closely in hurling to Watergrasshill while being well beaten by Mayfield, Ballinora and Whitchurch in football.

End of 2017 review for the Kitha Óg Minors
Minor hurling league:
We had a very successful year in the league where we were unbeaten throughout only
losing unfortunately in final to Aghada. We had our backs to the wall in several games and
the lads stood up and pulled the result out of the fire. Due to injuries throughout the
campaign we had the opportunity to give a lot of players game time and not one of them
looked out of place playing at this level.
Minor football league:
Again we were unbeaten throughout the campaign and only lost in the semi-final to a strong
Ballygarvan side.
Minor hurling championship:
We reached the final of the Hurling championship after beating Aghada in the semi final. We
were beaten by a strong Lisgoold side who improved as the year went on. We then played
Ballycastle Gaels in the county section which we unfortunately lost also. Although we didn’t
manage to lift some silverware I think we can be proud of our performances and with a bit
of luck we could have progressed further in the county.
Minor football championship:
We also reached the final of the minor football championship losing to good Fr O’Neills side.
We had a great win against Cobh in the quarter final and had the better of St Colmans in the
semi-final.
Overall review:
Overall I think we can be very proud of our performance throughout the year. We were a bit
unlucky with injuries at crucial times during the year but unfortunately these things happen
and we’re not the only team who this has happened to. If you had told me at the beginning
of the campaign we would reach 3 finals and a semi out of the 4 competitions then I would
have been a happy with that so plenty of positives to take. Hopefully we continue to
develop and grow next year and get our hands on a trophy.

Kiltha Og U16 -2017
Following a mixed year at U15 level in 2015, we started off 2016 knowing that there was need for
improvement, in order to get the lads playing to their potential and at the level required to be
successful.
Objectives
Our key objectives for the year would have been :-
1. Provide ample matches for all players at a level appropriate to their ability.
In general we achieved this goal with the 23 players on the age playing an average of 15
games, and all those available playing a minimum of 10 games. However we would have
liked this to be more if possible. In order to be competitive at P2A level, particularly in
championship, it was necessary to field our best available team, including the better U15s. In
general this resulted in approx. 50% of the U16s getting very little game time with the first
team. This was a Catch 22 situation, as without the U15s we would not have been
competitive.
2. Hurling - P2A Team – Objective was to be competitive in league and championship and
hopefully win some silverware
The objective of winning some silverware was realised when we had a great victory in the
championship following 4 very competitive and hard fought matches. The standard in this
competition was very good and even, and winning it was a significant achievement.
In the league we started with a very poor performance in a heavy defeat to Fr O’Neills.
However things improved from there on, and an overall record of 4 wins from 6 matches
saw us qualify for a league semi final. Ironically we went to considerable effort and expense
to play out 7 th league match vs Eire Og under lights in Ballincollig, only for the board to
subsequently scratch this round of matches. Our semi final v Newcestown took place in
Newcestown on 5 th November. A poor performance, mirroring that of our first league match,
resulted in a much hungrier and sharp Newcestown side running out easy and deserving
winners. Our lads seemed jaded and maybe had gone off the boil following the
championship endeavours.
A disappointing aspect of the league was the decision of the board to reduce the number of
games from 8 to 6, which contradicts the main objective of providing lots of games as per
item 1 above.
Our championship campaign started with a quarter final vs Lisgoold on a damp Killeagh pitch
on 14 th August. Following a narrow league defeat to the same opposition a few weeks
earlier, this was a game we were well primed for. An excellent start and an ability to score
goals at one end and not concede any at the other led to a comprehensive, if somewhat
flattering 12 points win. This was probably our best performance of the season.
Two weeks later we headed to the Mardyke for a semi final encounter Vs Eire Og. Missing
our captain Eoghan Martin due to injury, conceding 2 very early goals, and losing key players
Jack McGann and Niall Morgan to injury before half time, it seemed that the odds were
stacked against us. However the lads battled heroically to squeeze out a 5 point win in a
tough bruising encounter where no quarter was asked or given.
We returned to the banks of the Lee on 30 th August for our final Vs Mallow. A special
mention must go to Colm O’Doherty who interrupted a family holiday in Spain to make
himself available for this game. This was a revenge mission of sorts as Mallow had beaten us
in the championship the previous year. A family bereavement meant I was not present at
this match and had to rely on Twitter reports via a poor internet signal, and word of mouth
reports the next day. Once again we made life hard for ourselves with a terrible start, as our
rearguard was under severe pressure. A number of shrewd positional changes (telepathically
directed by the manager) had the desired effect and we clawed our way back into the game.
Having been 6 points down at the start of the second half, the lads reeled off 7 unanswered
point to lead by one with time almost up. A late pointed free from Mallow saw the game end
in a draw and so we geared up for a replay.
The replay was fixed for Sun 10 th Sept in Blarney. This time there was no poor start and
despite playing against a gale we were only 1 point in arrears at half time. Mallow scored a
goal and a point within 2 minutes of the restart to throw the cat among the pigeons, but our
lads settled to the task and bossed the rest of the match. Green flags from serial goalscorer
Kyle Quinn Waites, James Ahern, Andrew Kelly, and Niall Morgan saw us into a strong lead
entering the last few minutes. At this stage Mallow threw the kitchen sink at us, but sterling
defending limited them to a solitary late consolation goal. The final whistle brought great
excitement for players, mentors, and supporters as we won on a scoreline of 5-9 to 3-9.
The trophy was presented to our captain Eoghan Martin, and was brought back to the parish
by a delighted bunch of players. A magical mystery tour of the parish ensued, led by John
Cody in his van, with Carey Joyce breaking the world record for most fellas hanging out of a
sun roof. A memorable end to a great day.
3. Hurling - B Team – Objective was to provide minimum 10 matches catering particularly for
those not regularly involved at P2A, and try to be reasonably competitive
In general we achieved this goal. We played 9 matches in total (8 league and 1
championship).
We were competitive in all our league matches, winning 5 out of 7, which allowed us to
qualify for the league semi final. In this match an excellent overall team performance
resulted in a 6 point win over championship winners St Catherines. Our final vs Lisgoold was
delayed for a number of weeks, due to Lisgoold having players involved in a minor co final,
and eventually played on 18 th Nov. Despite a very spirited performance from our lads, we
were beaten by a very strong Lisgoold side. This was a particularly disappointing result as it
was the third year in a row to be beaten in the B hurling league final.
In championship we did not have as strong a squad to pick from, and were beaten in the first
round by Nemo Rangers by 4 points. While we would have been reasonably happy with the
performance, there was still a feeling of what might have been, as it was a game we could
have won, and Nemo subsequently got to the final, which they lost after a replay.
4. Football – play a minimum of 10 matches, try to give reasonable game time to all
interested players, and try to be reasonably competitive
Overall our football year was a disappointment.
We started reasonably well in the league and had 2 wins (Vs Iniscarra and Douglas) from our
first 4 games. However we failed to win any more matches during the season. A walk over
from Sliabh Rua in our last game allowed us to qualify (almost by default) for the league semi
final where we were well beaten by Aghabollogue.
In championship we played Iniscarra in the first round in late September. Having beaten
them in the league we were reasonably hopeful of a positive result, but a disappointing
performance led to a comprehensive defeat.
It would appear that in order to be competitive in football we need to consider dropping a
grade.
Summary of Matches and Training
We commenced training in late January, with 6 weeks of S&C training conducted by Martin
McSweeney, before normal training and matches started in late February. We had our last formal
match on 18 th November. At the start of the season, Martin Hennessy acted as hurling coach, and we
also had welcome input from Keith Moran who conducted a number of football sessions. In May,
Martin Hennessey informed us that he would not to be to continue as coach due to work
commitments. At this stage we went into recruitment mode, and we very glad to secure the services
of John Cody, who acted as coach and selector for the rest of the season, to great effect.
Over the course of the season we had a total of 29 matches and 66 training sessions with a
breakdown on the matches as follows:-
Played Won Drawn Lost No of players
Hurling – P2A 14 9 1 4
Hurling – B2 9 6 0 3
Football 6 2 0 4
Total 29 17 1 11 23 (end of year)
25 (start of year)
U16 Cork Development Squad
Congratulations to Kyle Quinn Waites who represented the club with distinction on the Cork U16
development squad.
Injuries
Best wishes to Jack McGann and Darragh Cashman who are both currently recovering from long
term injuries. Hopefully they will be back in action in plenty time for next season.
Day Out
As we go to press we have a day of paintballing and karting planned for Watergrassshill on Sun 3 rd
Dec, which promises to be an enjoyable event for the lads.
Player Numbers / Player Retention
Our player retention was quite good. We started the season with a potential list of 25 players on the
age, 2 of whom did not join up this season as they decided to concentrate on other sports. We had
23 players on the age actively involved throughout the season, along with 10 U15s who were
regularly involved also. The hope is that all these players will continue to be involved at minor level,
and get the opportunity to develop and enjoy themselves with plenty matches and training sessions.
For 2018 the challenge is to ensure that the fringe players don’t get ‘lost’ as the U17s and U18s all
join together.
Football Decline
In football there seems to be a consistent decline in interest and standards (not sure which comes
first) over the last few years. For Minor in 2018, it looks like we will have 1 no team competing at A
or B1 level. Given that there are over 20 players at U17 and possibly another 10 at U18 it is difficult
to see how they can all be accommodated. Given our numbers it seems that we are not reaching our
potential in football. However this seems to be an issue at most age levels in the club, and maybe it
is an area that needs to be addressed on a broader level.
Thanks
Many thanks to all the players for their commitment throughout the year.
Gratitude especially to the parents for their support and understanding, as the difficulty in operating
2 teams, while also trying to co-ordinate with other clubs, often resulted in re-scheduling games at
short notice.
Sincere thanks to the club officers, in particular to our secretary Martin Leahy, and chairperson JJ
Ahern for their continuous help and support throughout the year,
I’d like to thank the U15 players, nearly all of whom we involved with us at some stage during the
year, with a number playing key roles for both the P2A and B teams. Thanks also to the U15
mentors, for being so co-operative, and making the players available.
I’d like to thank my fellow mentors Brendan Cantwell, and Liam Flynn for their hard work and
assistance during the year. Special mention goes to John Cody who joined the management team
during the year. His coaching ability and overall passion and dedication was a very welcome and
valuable addition to our set up.

Under 15
P1 Hurling
Having won the P2 championship & league in 2016, hopes were high that this group would give a
good account of themselves at P1 level for 2017.
The goals at the start of the year were to win a championship match and to finish in the top 4 in the
league. The first of these goals was achieved when Blackrock were overcome in the quarter final of
the championship by 4-11 to 5-7, in what was a memorable night in Midleton. A bit of history was
created with this victory, as it was our clubs first victory at Premier 1 level. The semi-final v the
eventual champions Glen Rovers was a chastening affair, but it was a great eye opener for everyone
to see what level we need to get to, in order to push on at this grade.
We missed our top 4 objective in the league as we only recorded one victory, again v Blackrock, who
we defeated comprehensively. We had narrow shaves with Sars, Midleton and the Barr’s but ended
up on the wrong side of close encounters each time. Hopefully next year with this experience under
our belt, these results can be reversed.
Kiltha Og 1-8 Midleton 1-13 Kiltha Og 0-3 Glen Rovers 3-16 (champ result also)
Kiltha Og 2-13 Ballincollig 3-18 Kiltha Og 3-9 Sarsfields 1-16
Kiltha Og 2-9 St Finbarr’s 1-15 Kiltha Og 1-18 Blackrock 2-5
Munster U-15 Blitz
Kiltha Og 2-7 Dungarvan 3-4 Kiltha Og 0-6 Roanmore 2-3
Kiltha Og 2-7 Erin’s Own (Cork) 1-3
C3 Hurling
This was another successful year at this grade. We were competitive in the league winning 3 out of
6. We also reached the Tournament Final, where we went down gallantly, to a strong Sars outfit by
1-6 to 3-11. With 5 minutes to go we were only 5 points down and pressing hard, but Sars scored 2
late goals to pull away in the end. This is a fantastic grade, which the lads enjoy playing enormously,
and is great for improving a players hurling.
Kiltha Og 7-14 Ballincollig 3-3 Kiltha Og 2-12 Sarsfields 1-12
Kiltha Og 0-9 Valley Rovers 3-6 Kiltha Og 3-7 Blackrock 3-18
Kiltha Og 5-8 Midleton 6-15 Kiltha Og 2-15 Inniscarra 0-7
East A Football
As there is no league at U-15, we just had one team entered in championship, where we were
beaten by Youghal on a scoreline of 1-6 to 4-9.

To sum it up, U-15 is a “limbo” year. As u-14 and u-16 is granted more importance by Rebel Og, it is
hard to build momentum, especially when the championship is over in April. We look forward to
2018 with confidence that we can improve the lads further.
A special thanks to Helena for all her work on match reports, and also first aid duties.

U14 2017 Review
Summary
Training commenced on 01-02- 17 and we had 44 training sessions
16 Hurling matches (6 league, 5 Feile, 2 Championship, 3 League Play-off)
15 Football matches (6 league, 4 Feile, 4 Championship, 1 League Play-off)
3 Challenge matches
P2 Hurling League Winners
Eastern B1 Football Championship Winners
Season end 18-11- 17 (Skills Competition)
In previous years training was done with the year above but due to the reliance on U13 players it
was decided to have U14 training with the U13’s. Jim Sweeney came on-board to as coach and to
give greater depth on the sideline as we tried to improve our performance at the business end of the
season, having lost 5 finals in a row.
Hurling
Our first league match was away to Ballygarvan on 05-April which finished in a draw. We remained
unbeaten over the following 6 weeks with victories over Carrigaline and Na Piarsiagh and a draw
with Carrigtwohil.
The Feile Group section was held in Castlemartyr on 20 th May. We successfully came through the
group with victories over Cobh and Whitechurch and drawing with Youghal. The semi-final and final
were held in Mayfield and after a tight match against Sliabh Rua qualified for the final against Na
Piarsaigh. This was a tight low scoring game with Na Piarsaigh coming out on top by 4 points. Na
Piarsiagh went on to win the Div 3 title at the finals.
The league resumed with an away fixture in Youghal. Due to injuries and player unavailability we
had a significantly weakened team and lost our only league fixture for the year. The final league
match was at home to Eire Og which we won qualifying us for the play offs.
We were drawn away against Na Piarsiagh in the first round of the championship. After a good first
half we lead by 3 points. Unfortunately Na Piarsiagh put in a much stronger second half winning by
10 points which flattered them somewhat.
The Challenge Cup against Ballygarvan was our poorest performance of the year and we were
beaten convincingly.
In the league play-off we were drawn away against Youghal who had topped the table. We started
well and lead from the start but conceded a soft goal to let them into the match. We continued to
play well but were never able to pull away and they equalised with a free close to the end. The
replay in Dungourney three weeks later looked to have gone away from us as the concession of two
goals early in the first half left us 6 points down at half time. An early goal in the second half started
the recovery and as full time approached Youghal scored a goal to send the tie to extra time. Extra
time was one way traffic in favour of Kiltha Og outscoring Youghal by 5 points to qualify for the final
against Na Piarsiagh.
The final was held in Dungourney having won the toss at the board meeting. After a solid start our
good work was undone by conceding two soft goals and we went into the break 6 points down. Na
Piarsaigh scored from the restart making a comeback look beyond our reach. However the heads
never dropped and we outscored Na Piarsaigh 2-8 to 3 points over the remainder of the match to
win by 4 points.
Football
We played our first football league match on 11 th March against St Colmans. We won the match
comfortably and that set the tone for the league where we went unbeaten with an average winning
margin of more than 20 points against St Colmans, St Catherines, Lisgoold, Fr O’Neills and Mayfield.
Our tightest match was against Cobh who were also competing at P2A.
Feile Football was hosted by Mayfield and we competed in Division 3. We comfortably negotiated
the group stages with wins over Mayfield and St Catherines. In the semi-final we accounted for
Shamrocks. Buttevant were our opponents in the final and we were beaten by a team that had a
little more football than us.
The football championship kicked off on 22 nd September against Fr O’Neills with a convincing victory.
This followed with a semi-final victory against Mayfield and a final win against Cobh, ending our final
losing streak which had stretched to 7 finals.
The football season came to a halt with losses to Ballinhassig (league semi-final) and Blarney (county
q-final)

Kiltha Og U13s 2017
The U13's started training on February 6th, 2017. As a lot of our U13's play on the U14's Team it was decided that we would join up for training with the U14's this year. In this regard I would like to thank Colm and Brendan for organising the training sessions. I would also like to thank Jim Sweeney who had come on board with the U14's as Coach - Jim put great time and effort into training the lads throughout the year and they certainly benefitted from his experience.
We were in Premier 2 for Hurling and A In Footfall. In the P2 Hurling the lads performed exceptionally well where unfortunately the only match they lost was the Final against Sars - and by just 1 point.
The Board put us in against Premier 1 Teams for the Autumn League where we had an excellent win over Midleton. But unfortunately came up short against Douglas and Ballygarvan. We were also invited to St Finbarrs for the Donie Cremin tournament. We won the Plate Final after playing Blackrock, Midleton and Newcastlewest.
The U13 A Football competition turned out to be a poorly organised event. Our U13's only ended up playing 3 Football matches - winning against Passage and Carrigtwohill loosing to Kilshannig by 1 point. This should have been enough to secure a place in a Semi Final but unfortunately the competition was never finished.
All in all it was a great year for this very promising bunch of lads.
I would like to thank Donal McCarthy and Richie Harney for their help throughout the year with regard to bookings for Castlemartyr and Dungourney pitches. Also I'd like to thank Eddie Geaney who was a great help providing players from the U 12's and facilitating us at times with regard to training and matches.
As always JJ Ahern and Eric McCarthy have been great support to have as mentors to the U13's and finally thanks again to all the parents for their ongoing support and encouragement.

Kiltha Og U12 2017 Year-end report
Under 12 group contains 21 boys on the age.
We commenced outfield training in February and tried to have two sessions per week if possible – when games were played, one training session was completed that week also, which was a doubling of our sessions from the previous year. We were placed in East A of both
football and hurling – these groups consisted of 7 teams each. The general rule is that the games be 13-a- side, but where possible we fielded 15 as often as possible (with agreement from the opposition) to avoid keeping lads on the sideline.
In football, we won 2 and lost 4 of our 6 games – we were not as competitive as I would have liked in all of these games. The boys play a nice brand of football but scoring and winning ball is a major problem.
In hurling, results were less successful again, with only 1 win from our 6 games – in saying that, we were probably more competitive this year than last, in that we did not get beaten by more than 7 points in any of these defeats. We probably could have picked up 2 more wins if we had
a little more luck and be a bit more clinical. The defeats exposed the same weaknesses in the group that we noted from last year – however, we have seen progress with some players andhopefully this can continue.
We took part in the Tommy Finn (Clonea Power Waterford) blitz in July – due to holidays etc. we had to call up 5 of the better U11 players to help with the squad – the effect of their addition was obvious as we qualified through the first day unbeaten (beating Ballyduff Upper and Dunamaggin, drawing with Clonea Power) and qualified for the quarter-final. Here we came up against De La Salle from Waterford and went down by 5 points after a fighting display.
I would like to thank the U11 selection team for their help in freeing up the U11 lads for this tournament – as I say, the addition of these lads was a big factor in helping some of our better players perform to their potential and to me, there is the makings of a nice team between them
in the future.
We participated in a number of blitz competitions after the summer to get the lads some matches – these included U12 football tournaments in Carrigtwohill and Aghada and hurling blitzs in Cobh, Aghada and Midleton. Another busy year with the group who will continue to need much more work to progress. The overall standard in hurling at their age was quiet high and our skills and athleticism improved, but were not strong enough to compete every time. The group has no outstanding individual, but are quite an even bunch so are not reliant on few players to carry them – the addition of the stronger U11 players during the Tommy Finn tournament and subsequent hurling blitzes
did seem to bring better performances from the overall group.
For 2017, the decision has been made to enter this group into the premier 2A section and see how it goes – this will be a really big challenge for many of these players and it’ll be interesting to see how many of them rise to meet it. I think that we could lose a few players from this group as the competition level increases but time will tell. As usual, extra manpower would be a great help if we can get it. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank Cha O’ Neill and Sean Murphy for their great help during the season. Also, thanks for Ger Broderick and Dave O’ Callaghan for their attendance and help during match days.

Kiltha Óg U11 End of Year report 2017
Player numbers: 26 players registered at start of season – 2 lapsed during the year
Coach numbers:We had a panel of 5 coaches, due to work commitments etc. it was rare all 5
were available
Training and matches:
Early season training was a struggle due to lack of all weather facilities.
We held sessions in the ball alleys in Dungourney and Castlemartyr.
Once pitches opened we trained once a week.
Matches:
Started with 2 hurling challenge matches in March against Youghal & Sars
though we had no full training sessions under our belt.
U11 league 2017:
We entered the 2 team group(11-a- side) in order to give every player as much
game time as possible though for some matches we were only able to field 1team.
Summary of results for U11 leagues:
Football
No of matches played 8
Wins 1
Draws 0
Loss 7
Hurling
No of matches played 12
Wins 6
Draws 4
Loss 2
Challenges:
- Player drop-off/commitment.
Since 2012 12 players have left the group. Reasons include lack of interest(2)
;emigration(3); medical reasons(1); lack of parental support/logistical issues
(2); preference for other sports(3); no idea(1)
- Attendance for training & matches. Lack of consistent attendance by some
players in some cases due to commitments to other activities.
Plan for 2018:
U12 P2 Central division for hurling and the lowest grade for football
6 players in the 2017 group are under the age. Of these 5 have agreed to drop
back to Ger Broderick's U11 group for next year. One parent does not agree
with the policy and believes children should play with their own classmates.
Coaching contracts could not be agreed for Patsy Cashman and David Burke to
work with next years U12s(they couldnt afford us!)
David O'Callaghan and John Barry will be the main U12 coaches with Jimmy
Smiddy helping out when available.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Patsy Cashman, David
O'Callaghan, John Barry, John Egan and Jimmy Smiddy for all their hard work
and commitment during the year and wish them all the very best for next year.
Also a note of thanks to all the officers of the club for their time and
commitment again throughout the year.
Player numbers: 26 players registered at start of season – 2 lapsed during the year
Coach numbers:We had a panel of 5 coaches, due to work commitments etc. it was rare all 5
were available

U10 2017 End of Year Report
We have had another very good year in the under 10 section of our club. We
regularly have up to 18 training and playing in this age group. We have
maintained our numbers year on year. We still have a mix within our group of
some good players for the age and some players who need more work and
effort to be put in by themselves as well as at training. We have tried to
improve all the players within our age group and I can say that are achieving
this, if even on a slow basis. We started of our year with our first training
session in early February this year and are still training for one more week. We
played matches and attended tournaments in both football and hurling in
2017.
Our first match which was a football match on the 18 th of March. We probably
played 10 football and 10 hurling matches over the season as part of the Rebel
Og U10 leagues. This was a run off in a football match followed by a hurling
match on alternate weekends. To me it worked well as the kids would train
during the week and had a match to look forward to nearly every weekend.
The league took a small break around mid-July and started up again at the end
of August.
We had good run of success in both codes throughout the season. I would say
that we won over 60% of the matches that we took part in. We were invited to
tournaments in Ballygiblin and Lismore which the boys enjoyed. We also
hosted a team from Piltown in Kilkenny in Castlemartyr ourselves as they
hosted us last year. This also went off with great success.
This bunch of players still need plenty of training and support. They are a great
bunch to turn up for training, no matter what the weather is, and they are all
improving and enjoying the process, I hope. Again I would like to thank the
parents for bringing the children to all the training sessions and matches
throughout the season. I would especially like to thanks Collette Murphy for
her efforts in helping me distribute the communications to the parents. I
would also like to thank Richard Daly, Declan Murphy, Conor Roche for their
efforts and commitment to the U10s throughout the year. We have had lots of
fun in 2017 so here’s looking forward to 2018!!!

U9 Annual Report 2017
Our U9 season commenced in early March and ran to the end of October. We have 30 U9 kids in total. Attendance numbers varied from low to mid-twenties. Our maximum attendance was 28.
We registered 2 football and 2 hurling teams in the Rebel Og U9 Go games Leagues. The first part of the league games commenced on 18 March and concluded on 08 July. The second part of the league commenced on 19 August and concluded on 23 September. Games rotated between football and hurling on most Saturday mornings. On Saturdays that had no scheduled games we had our own training sessions. In addition we had 1 midweek training session usually on Wednesday evenings.
Our training session games are divided so that the stronger players play one game and the weaker ones play in another game. We have found that this benefits both sets of players particularly the weaker ones who get a lot more time on the ball than if on mixed ability teams.
In total we played 9 hurling games and 9 football games. We were well able to compete with most clubs and had some really good competitive games. We also did 2 mini blitz hurling sessions with Kiltha Og U8 group which they really enjoyed.
We continuously encourage them to practice the skills outside of training, some do, some don’t. We also gave them all a wall ball each at the end of the season to encourage them to practice over the winter months. This is something we need to continue to focus heavily on next year as it is now becoming more obvious which ones are practicing the skills outside of the training and match days. This will become even more apparent over the coming year(s) as the skill level improves and the Go Games get more competitive.
Overall the season went well and boys seem to be enjoying the training and matches. Thankfully we had no injuries during the year.
